It’s no secret that Australia is home to some of the hottest Summers worldwide so, when it comes to being out in the sun, it’s crucial that we stay sun smart, especially when we have little ones around. If you’re heading out in the sun this Summer, take a look at some of our tips to keep cool.
1. Stay hydrated
An oldie but a goodie. Your body needs approximately 2L of water everyday to live well. Water helps maintain our body temperatures and without enough of it we can experience severe symptoms of dehydration. Water can also be found in fruits and vegetables making it easy to stay on top of your daily intake.
2. Wear sunscreen
Slip, slop, slap. Before heading into the sun at any time of the day, even if it’s not for long, slap on some sunscreen (at least SPF 30+). It’s important to understand that the sun can still be harmful even on overcast days and even when you’re wearing clothes.
3. Stay in the shade
When you’re not required to be out in the sun, don’t be. Try sitting under a tree or a shade sail when going outside to eat your lunch or when enjoying the warmth. Take a look at some of our Ezy Shades shade sails here.
4. Rinse your pulse points
Although it is not commonly known, applying cool water to your wrists, ankles or neck will help you beat the heat this Summer.
5. Eat smaller meals
Our bodies heat up when digesting food. The bigger the meal, the more food to digest, the more heat we generate. Eat small meals more regularly so your body doesn’t have to work as hard!
Whether you’re spending the Summer indoors or out on the beach, staying sun smart is part of our culture and should be a priority in your lifestyle. If you’ve got young ones or know someone who does, be sure to watch over them when they’re around to make sure they can enjoy the sun without the risk.
